Kronos WFC v8 Users must say Goodbye to Internet Explorer 9 & 10

Written by Jenna DeVries | Oct 23, 2015

Since the release of WFC Version 8.0,  a lot of information has circulated about which versions of Internet Explorer Kronos would continue to support. When Kronos started the development of Workforce Central v8 two years ago, the initial plan for browser support on Windows was to support IE9, 10, and 11 as well as Chrome and Firefox. However, issues arose that required Kronos to reduce the number of browser versions they support. As of January 12, 2016 Internet Explorer 9 and Internet Explorer 10 will no longer be supported for Workforce Central (versions 6.3, 7 and Kronos wfc v8). This is due to the fact that Microsoft is dropping support for older versions of IE on Jan 12, 2016.

The first browser issue stemmed from Internet Explorer version 9 not fully supporting HTML5, the latest version of HTML that most of WFC v8 is based on. Microsoft only partially implemented HTML5 support in IE9. As a result, there are many pages in WFC v8 that do not render properly. Specifically, help text that would normally appear within text boxes to help the user understand what to enter into that field does not appear, creating a usability issue. As a result of this usability issue customers should be advised to upgrade to newer browser versions like IE11, Chrome, or Firefox.

The second issue is that Microsoft has modified their support policy for old web browser versions. Under their new policy they are no longer supporting old browser versions for the different versions of Windows that they ship. Their new policy, as can be seen on the Microsoft support site, states that “Beginning January 12, 2016, only the most current version of Internet Explorer available for a supported operating system will receive technical support and security updates.” Under this policy the only browser version supported by Microsoft on Windows 7 or 8 after January 12 will be IE11.

Kronos traditionally holds a policy that support is given to technology or a platform until the vendor of the product discontinues their mainstream support. Since Microsoft has dropped support for Ie9 and IE10 up to January 12th, Kronos will also officially drop support for Ie9 and IE10 in January. Kronos is recommending that customer upgrade to the newer browsers.
