Automating Holidays in Kronos Workforce Central is a wonderful time saving feature that has changed a lot over past versions. In fact, it is really a collection of features. Recently, I visited a client who was still manually calculating their holidays. They would perform a group edit and assign Holiday hours (HOL) to all their employees. Then they would review the employees' time-cards and remove the holiday credit from each employee who did not qualify for Holiday pay because they were part time, new, or did not work the correct days. Lucky for the client, the company rules were such that simply being paid REG along with receiving the Holiday bonus was sufficient pay for working on the holiday.
WFC CAN automatically give the employees the Holiday credit for not working
WFC CAN limit holiday credit to those employees who were employed for more than 90 days before the holiday
WFC CAN give different credit amounts to different groups of employees
albeit for different unions or different workloads
WFC CAN automatically place work hours in a different pay code if the employee worked the holiday, so that it could be paid at a different rate (or reported on separately)
WFC CAN enforce working the scheduled days surrounding the holidays, (by taking away the credit if the employee did not meet the before/after requirements)
WFC CAN subtract the worked hours from the holiday credit hours granted for the part time employees.
WFC CAN quickly generate a list of the employees that were not eligible for the holiday
If they had been using more of the features from earlier versions they would have been delighted to learn that now:
Holiday calendars could be built in advance (years even)
Holidays no longer need to be added to each individual Pay Rule each year
Holidays no longer need to be added to each individual Work Rule each year
Holidays no longer have to use the Even/Odd trick
New pay rules are not need solely because different employees use different holidays
Statutory holidays can be programmed based upon the hours that were worked over previous periods of time
Different rules can be applied to the same group of employees depending on the day of the week the holiday falls on
Time cards no longer need to be edited by exempt employees during a holiday week
The same holiday could be added in Workforce Central, but configured so that different employees see different names for it
Schedules can be made to show only the holidays assigned the employee instead of all holidays in the system
There are even more things that can be done to automate the Holidays in Kronos Timekeeper; the only limitations are the contracts your organization is bound to.
What can we do to make your Holiday(s) more enjoyable?
